Cheung Chau Island

Aug 13, 2017

I have been to Cheung Chau twice: last year to discover the island and this year for a fashion photo shooting of my friend Marina (see her fashion portrait here). Two times, two different afternoons: the first time we spent our time visiting temples and the overall island and the second time we relaxed on the beach and swim. But each time, same end: taking a drink while watching the sunset at the Pink Pig.

Last year, we took a ferry for Cheung Chau Island on August with Manon (see her fashion portrait here) and Apolline. The weather had a threatening looking but it was eventually sunny and hot once on the island. First shop where we had to make a refreshing stop: #mochis, with a new flavour, chocolate and strawberry! We discovered later that it was the paradise for these little Japanese rice cakes: banana, lychee, strawberry, dragon fruit… We had them all.

Cooked pig snouts?

The beach was a little bit disappointed: crowded with little space to lay a towel, we did not make a stop. Two cut Chinese temples to see, a lot of fishes drying in the sun, plenty of seafood restaurants. We haven’t push until the Pirate’s cave which was on the other side of the island – and we were thirsty…

This year we’ve been on the island for lunch, choosing our fish at the wet market and making it cooked in the local ways by the restaurant. The fish was soaking in a brown sauce which was really good. We had lunch on a Chinese round table (#lazysusan) next to the sea and then we went to the beach for a refreshing bath. The beach is not my favourite one as it is often crowded and the water was kind of murky.

We then stopped at the bar called ‘Pink Pig’, a recommendation of my colleague where owners are lovely, the beer fresh and tasty with a touch of peach syrup – yes, we made it in the French way (and the super-plus: they have some fried mozzarella pieces… Yes, you heard me, MOOZARELLA! And you know how much I love this #italiancheese J heart heart).

Calm and pleasant afternoons few miles away from the busy city. A gracious getaway to which I will often come back. You may try to go there during the famous Bun Festival in May of each year.
