Cycling from Tai Wai to Tai Po

Sep 21, 2018

If you haven’t tried to go cycling in Hong Kong yet, it is a shame! it is so pleasant to ride a bicycle in remote areas of Kowloon or in the New Territories. We’ve done it quite a few times and today I am detailing the path from Tai Wai (Sha Tin) to Tai Po or Tai Mei Tuk, along the Tolo Harbour.

Renting bikes

We rented bikes just at the exit of Tai Wai MTR. I can’t tell you exactly where but this blogger has thought of all here. Prices are really cheap and you can even drop your bicycle at another branch located at the end of your journey in Ta Po or Tai Mei Tuk depending on the shop from which you rent your engine.

A breath of fresh air

This path is one of the most popular in Hong Kong with a nice and comfortable track along Shing Mun River. We began cycling and passed a group of local people singing and dancing for a local festivity, they were very enthusiastic. Then we continue and passed along the horse racing track of Sha Tin. Be careful as sometimes people are not hearing if you speak to them (to warn them from a danger or something) because they have their headphones while cycling … I Almost bumped into a little girl who didn’t hear me and was stationed in the middle of the path.

Take a Break at Sciences Park

There is a convenient bar in the middle of the track, at Sciences Park. You can take this opportunity to admire the modern architecture. After a small break, we continue and we saw a group of girls recording a video clip. All were dancing on a platform facing the sea. The background must have been nice on the final video!

If you feel sporty, push until Tai Mei Tuk to reach the Tai Mei Tuk reservoir which is a little bit further. We stopped at Tai Po station, dropped our bikes and just took the MTR. The whole journey was seamless and very pleasant. Even for days without a bright sunshine, this can be a nice activity to go out and do sport.
