Sunset Peak, Lantau

Jan 25, 2018

Two Sundays ago the weather being as amazing as it is this week, we decided to go on a #hike! We didn’t do many hikes in 2017, so one of the good resolutions of this new year is to remedy this situation. We initially thought of the short hike of Kowloon Peak but finally changed our mine and tried the Sunset Peak (3 to 4 hours).

This hike is located on Lantau Island and is really close to its twin hike ‘the Lantau trail’ – you can do both at one time if you feel like very courageous. We decided to be reasonable and we just did the Sunset Peak. One coffee and one taxi ride later (take the blue taxi on Lantau, not the red), we started the hike under a great sun.

The view you can get along the way is – as always – pretty amazing when it is sunny. We stopped for lunch on a big rock facing the sea. Our picnic was mainly maid of Pret a Manger stuff (there is one conveniently located at Tung Chung MTR station). You can easily stop for lunch on the top of the Sunset Peak where you will admire the view on the ocean and Hong Kong airport. Marina amazed us by describing the work she achieved on the HK-Macau bridge we could see from the top!

The path to go down is not super well indicated so don’t forget your phone or don’t hesitate to ask people around. The path back to Mui Wo ferry part was longer than the road to the peak but also less steep.

The final touch was to enjoy some delicious hot and cold Turkish #mezze before taking the ferry back to Wan Chai. I especially recommend the fried halloumi and the baba ganoush (eggplant) dip.

For a sunny and healthy Sunday hike without being too tired before the work week, have a try at hiking the Sunset Peak!
